The Santa Margherita Catholic High School Choir (California, USA) will meet with Nieuw Amsterdams Jeugdkoor, singing separately and also performing a few selections together.
Everyone is welcome!
The Santa Margarita choir has performed in prestigious music halls such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall, and the Segerstrom Center for the Arts. The choir has also performed internationally, singing Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, Italy, and throughout Europe. Singers from the choir are often accepted into major conservatories and universities around the world. The Santa Margarita choir program is under the direction of Performing Arts Chair Francisco Calvo who is highly respected in Southern California as a conductor, pianist, composer/arranger, and musicologist.
As local partners for this event we have the Nieuw Amsterdam Jeugdkoor under the direction of Béni Csillag, who currently teaches at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague while also serving as conductor for various ensembles. The Nieuw Amsterdam Jeugdkoor is a group of the most advanced students of Nieuw Vocaal Amsterdam, which offers classical singing training to over 300 children from the Amsterdam area and collaborates with the Amsterdam Conservatory and the Dutch National Opera & Ballet.
